Hello Family and a Happy New Year! 2024 was a hell of a time and this year looks set to be even crazier - so let us tell you what we’re doing to meet these times and keep growing as a group and organisation!
So what’s the plan? Well we’re 3 years in now and we’ve tried different things each year -
1st year it was linking nationally and bringing people together for Educational Residentials. This was really powerful but we felt disconnected from our local youth community here in Stroud.
So 2nd year it was building campaigns around challenging Mis-Education and Internationalism which gave us a much better base here but it was still quite a small base.
So 3rd year was some of both, we built a Youth Assembly in Stroud to get broad participaition locally, continued our Internationalist work with PRALER and got back to running workshops nationally.
Going into 2025 the Youth Assembly is up and bringing lots of new young folks into action locally so we’re back concentrating on building links nationally and internationally, raising our voices and building up our team and organisational strength - read on to find out how!
^The RYSE in 2024 - from rooftop occupations to radical art sessions and soooo many workshops!^
First up, we’ve got the RYSE Podcast which will be a core part of how we get louder this year with episodes on everything from our educational principles to team interviews and lots more thrown in. Its a chance to dig deeper into some of the core ideas and stories we weave in our work and so make sure you check it out and let us know what you think - here’s a couple episodes to get you started:
Secondly, it’s time to grow the RYSE team! Between people heading off to study and us constantly growing our ambition and ability, it’s time we brought in some more core team members to really hit 2025 running.
For this we’ve updated our ‘Work With Us’ page on the website and really encourage anyone interested to go have a read - link here - and if you need convincing have a listen to our Uma talk about how its been working with the team this year!
Thirdly, we’re building a RYSE Youth Educators Network to link up lots of the amazing young educators we know who are out there sweating away in movements, groups and campaigns. We want to create collective learning space to practice our pedagogy and provide ever more opportunities to cross collaborate and build connections. So if you’re a young radical educator whose already deep in a project but wants a community to learn with then let us know - email as always is theryse@riseup.net - oooor if you run an event, organiser a movement, etc. and want to invite a young radical educator then let us know, we’ll soon have names and numbers up and down the land!
Finally, lots of work this year is going to go into the practical building of The RYSE. We’re on the cusp of getting our first solid multi-year space (fekking finally!) and lining up equally exciting funding relationships.
This will really solidify our work and allow us to move ahead with a real grounding and ability to plan. So big thanks as always to everyone supporting us on Open Collective and to the Olders locally doing awesome intergenerational solidarity!
Before we go, make sure you’re following these folks!
Alright, that’s us - go well family and stay close, we’ve got work to do!
